The Original Six Foundation donated nearly $2,500.00 dollars in Scholastic books to the Marian Wright Edelman Public Library last month. Box after box was opened to reveal hundreds of Juvenile Fiction books that will be used in early childhood literacy efforts throughout Marlboro County.

Each year, the library devotes a significant amount of time developing early literacy initiatives for the community. We partner with local head start centers, daycares, schools and many other organizations to help meet the educational needs of the youth in Bennettsville, Blenheim, Clio, McColl and Wallace.

In an effort to encourage a love of learning and reading, the library aims to provide a set of books to each child that participates in our programming. In the past, we have given bookcases filled with books to our head start graduates, book bags to summer reading participants, and even sets of books to individual library participants. This year, we gave 96 book bags to McColl and Blenheim head start graduates and plan to award summer readers in the same fashion.

We are so grateful to have donors like the Original Six Foundation. These donations make it possible to continue providing these books year after year, free of charge, to the future of our community. For that, we want to say thank you!
