Excitement from Richard Carroll Elementary School for new After School Program

Richard Carroll Elementary School will benefit from a new after school program designed and funded through The Original Six Foundation and Innersole.  Here’s a quick note from their principal on the excitement they have for the upcoming program.

“Richard Carroll Elementary School in Bamberg, SC is very excited to be partnering with Governor Haley’s The Original Six Foundation and Coach Staley’s Innersole for the upcoming school year on an Afterschool Program.  This partnership will allow us to serve 5th and 6th grade students afterschool for the first time in many years!  Students will receive snacks, homework assistance, and extra assistance in areas designated as need in math and reading.  They will also take field trips and have exposure to things they might not normally get to see like USC basketball and football games.  The program takes a holistic approach to learning – looking at the whole child and all that life experiences may offer.

We partnered with Innersole for their reading initiative this past year and had a tremendous growth in students in grades 5 and 6 that read.  This program fostered whole classes working together to meet goals set at the beginning of each 9 weeks to earn free tennis shoes!  Not just ordinary ones but name brand tennis shoes that they loved.  This year we are including our grade 2 and 3 students to promote reading even more!

As you can see, these two organizations working together with Richard Carroll Elementary School have made tremendous impacts on our students both at school and home.  We are very fortunate to be a part of something that is allowing us to do things that we simply would not be able to do with the school budgets of today.”
