In recent years, Allendale Fairfax athletic teams have been very successful. Allendale Fairfax High School is home to a four-time State Champion Boys Track Team, a winning varsity football team plus varsity baseball and softball teams. Despite this incredible level of success, the teams do not have a track for practices or meets, and they have to travel over 40 miles round trip for practices every day!
The Allendale County community formed a fund through the Coastal Community Foundation to build a sports complex for the Allendale-Fairfax high school. The project includes a track for the state championship track team, and a locker room for the football team. This facility and project will acknowledge the accomplishments of these athletes, and it will promote healthy living in the community. Through local fundraising efforts, the community has already raised $30,000 towards the project; although a start, the current funds are a fraction of what the entire project needs.
With a population of approximately 10,000 people, Allendale County is located in a rural part of South Carolina. Allendale County is one of the poorest counties in the state; and the unemployment rate is nearly 20 percent. The Allendale Fairfax High School track teams have overcome these challenges and had great success.
The community would benefit from the construction of a track for the high school and the Allendale community. A track will recognize and reward the athletes who have succeeded on the state level, and it will also motivate the upcoming members of the track teams and schools in the county. Furthermore, the track would encourage healthy living among the population, as it will support a healthy athletic activity.
Allendale County needs neighbors to help neighbors and support this project with a tax deductible contribution to the Allendale Fairfax High School sport complex. Make checks payable to the “Coastal Community Foundation of S.C.” The check memo line should reference the “Allendale Track” to make sure that the funds are put into the proper account.
